William "Bill" Correira
Born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts, Bill relocated to st. Petersburg in1976 and has lived and worked in the area ever since. A graphic artist, Bill was influenced at an early age by his father William Correira a well known scrimshaw artist whose work was recognized throughout Hawaii, Nantucket and Maine. Under the guidance of his father, Bill developed his technique and was encouraged to exhibit his work.

Bill creates his pieces using mixed medium on granite and marble. His focus remains on figure studies and marine life that is indigenous to the area. It is on the face of the stone that Bill is able to join the natural beauty of the subject with the given nature of the stone to create a work of art that reflects both its strength and vulnerability. Each piece is unique with no two alike.
Bill has been an ardent supporter of environmental causes in the area by donating many pieces of his work to asist in fundraising efforts.
His work is held in many private collections.
